The Challenge

Working in a project involving such an iconic artist like George Harrison is already a big deal (at least for us).

But our partners Dynamic Dinossaur and Fender brought us in with some added pressure: a previous collaboration hadn’t met expectations, resulting in a tight deadline and little room for iteration. The storyboard lacked the level of detail required for such a compressed production timeline, and the story itself posed a unique challenge – recreating a moment in George Harrison’s life that had never been visually documented.

The team decided to rewrite the script and reposition the concept – but needed a motion partner who could quickly translate that new creative direction into compelling visuals.

Our Approach

Given the constraints, clarity became essential. We worked closely with Dynamic Dinosaur and Fender to refine and adapt the storyboard, proposing smart visual solutions that aligned with the campaign’s goals while remaining feasible within the timeline.

To tell an undocumented story in a documentary-style format, we leaned into illustration as a storytelling device. Illustrating George Harrison allowed us to build a broader world around him, introducing symbolic and atmospheric elements, like a car racing through London, to evoke emotion and context rather than literal documentation.

This direction also subtly echoed a meaningful cultural reference: the Beatles’ own history of using illustration during key phases of their career. Throughout the process, constant collaboration and open feedback loops ensured every creative decision was purposeful and production-ready from the start.

The Outcome

Despite the shortened timeline, the project delivered a fun, engaging, and visually distinctive film worthy of both Fender’s craftsmanship and George Harrison’s legacy.

The strong collaborative process built trust quickly. The client’s confidence in us as an animation partner led them to expand the project into additional formats, extending the life and impact of the campaign. What began as a high-pressure rescue mission evolved into a creative partnership grounded in clarity, trust, and shared problem-solving, resulting in work that felt both respectful and fresh.
